Air Abrasion
Air abrasion is an extremely conservative restorative procedure, it works similar to a very precise sand blaster using small micro-particles of aluminum oxide under compressed air to remove decay.
What are the benefits for me?
With Air Abrasion, patients enjoy the near absence of noise, and the total absence of vibration. There is never any burning smell. Oftentimes, but not always, Air abrasion can be accomplished without Novocain. The primary advantage of Air Abrasion; however, is the minimal amount of tooth that needs to be removed to restore it when compared to using a dental bur and hand piece.
Can it be used on all teeth?
Air abrasion is excellent for small areas of decay in the grooves of teeth and also used prior to dental sealants. Air abrasion cannot remove old filling material and is not indicated for moderate to large areas of decay.
