Composite Bonding
Composite Bonding is an esthetic procedure that can be used for teeth that are chipped, cracked, discolored or misaligned. The composites used today can look very similar to enamel and is oftentimes undetectable. We will be happy to show you some pre and post treatment photos of cases that we have completed.
How does it work?
The tooth is prepared for the procedure by lightly etching the surface and applying a bonding agent. The bonding agent is cured with an ultraviolet light. The composite resin is then placed, sculpted, and light cured. The composite is then polished with ultra fine diamonds and finishing burs to mimic the natural tooth.
Considerations
The Composite Bonding procedure is completed in a single office visit, and can significantly improve the appearance of a tooth. However, since the plastic resin used is not as strong as your natural tooth enamel, it is more likely to stain, chip or break than natural teeth. Replacement of the composite will at some time in the future be necessary.
